Just curious on if it is good to put small pieces of carrots or other vegetables in your tank for food? Thought maybe the fish would like it, but will check with others who know, just in case its bad. What do you think

Any sort of vegetables or even fruits can be tried in tanks, as long as they are removed if they're not eaten before they rot.

I have put a leaf of lettuce in my tank and my Apple snail goes after that. I tried a slice of cucumber, but no takers.

Most veggies are good, but some need to be softened before fish will eat them. Try adding the cukes or zucchini to boiling water for about 30 seconds--rinse and cool, then feed. I freeze zucchini and thaw for feeding--this works wel. My 40 will go through 2 cups, peels and all, in about 2 days. Iceburg lettuce and celery are pretty light nutritionally, but leafy greens are great, as are peas, broc/cauli (though my fish eat only the stumps, the florets are left floating, so I trim the florets for cooking, feed the rest to the fish). I'm guessing carrots would be okay, but you'll definitely need to cook them to soften them up a bit.
Be careful with fruits--they contain enough sugar to kick off a bacteria bloom. Same with potatoes--too many carbs.
The fish that seem to eat the veggies the most: bristlenose, butterfly pulcher, chocolate pleco, upside down cats, CAE, rainbow shark, kuhli loaches, gourami, guppies, ghost shrimp, amano shrimp, and of course snails of all types. The only things I've never seen touch them: spiny eels, neons.
