Hi,
My cousin has recently bought me a flying fox; or...did he? Im franticly(dont ask why) trying to find out if i have, Flase siemease, simease algea eater. Or flying fox. I cant quite tell much. but i think i porbably dont have a false simaese, observing color diffrences through pics. ive basically narrowed it down two siamease algea eater.. or flying fox. Ill try and get a picture. if possbile. tell me the diffrences between these fish.
- thanks

A SAE has a zig-zag black strip down the body. SAEs have transparent fins and a single pair of barbels, while the foxes have colored fins and two sets of barbels.

You know, I've been trying to figure out the same thing. My fish was sold to me as a flying fox (although I was really trying to find a true siamese algae eater, to no avail). It was quite young when I got it a few months ago. It is now about 3.5-4 inches long. I can't seem to find the 2nd set of barbels. The fins don't seem to have any color, and the dark stripe might possibly have a somewhat zig-zag edge. If anyone has any more pics to post with this thread, it might help.

I gotta' go stare at my tank some more!

This one has real pics of the different types (although not exactly the best pics)... but between that and the excellent drawings on the krib site Alex posted, you should be able to play detective quite successfully.
