Hey Mike,
Welcome to Aquaria Central! It would help somewhat if you could tell us your water parameters, like lighting, specific gravity, nitrate, pH, alkalinity and Ca for starters. Also, how long the tank's been set up.
By finger leather, I assume you mean Sinularia.
I have seen reports of softies pouting for prolonged periods of time after changes. How did you acclimatize it, and for how long? Are the lighting and current that it has now similar to what it had in the store?
My other soft corals were fully open within a day, but my toadstool, which is in the same family as your finger leather, gradually opened over the course of a week or two when it first came home. Has there been any improvement, or has it been completely closed all the time?
Another possibility is that there's someone walking on it. Leather corals really don't like having animals on them, or being touched, and will often shut if they get bothered.
Just some ideas. It's probably just pouting, but it's good to ask. By the way, if you don't have it already, Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals book is well worth having.
