10g tank cycling right now, gonna split it in half for twin betta tanks. But we used to keep a betta in a 1g pickle jar. I wanna keep that jar on my computer table, but want something other than a betta or a dwarf frog in it.

Any ideas?

The only fish I could recommend for a something that size is Heterandria Formosa (least killiefish). It is one of the smallest live bearers and is the smallest fish in the USA. They are very hardy and do well in small planted tanks such as a 5 or a 2.5 plant tank but I heard people keeping them in one gallon jars. These are not usually sold at the LFS here in the states but maybe up your way they may have them. If not, try your local fish club, there would be someone who has a colony of them.

Just cover the bottom of the jar with gravel siphoned off the very topmost surface of a well-matured tank. Fill the pickle jar with clippings from your plants. And put a Paradisefish in there. No heater is required.

If you have a series of pickle jars, you could be spawning White Cloud Mountain Minnows, moving the parents on to the next jar to raise some fry.

Killifish will thrive in a pickle jar.

forget the fish... put the pickles back in the jar and get another 10 gallon.

I would give a paradise fish at least 2 gallons.. (IMO anyway), I'm sure it could do quite well in there, except that I cannot express how active these fish are.

Wippit,

Have you given a thought to having a few shrimp in there? Just a thought, but they might be pretty cool with a few plants. :)

you must be obsssesive with those little fish, your always talking about them!! they look cool

I am just a litte. ;) But hey, its my way of passing the word. If i get one person interested, then my job is done and I have passed on the addiction.
But seriously, for those who want to have a few fish for a small tank these guys are perfect. They have the right temperment, produce young constantly, and are the right size.. Everyone else push bettas or paradise fish but these guys need their PR too. :D

Heh... if I had my wait I'd have a 300+ gallon tank... or 5... but I'm broke and can't build my own until I own a house rather than rent... so I'm stuck with using a pickle jar to get more fish. :P
