What's the best spot for the skimmer in the sump?

I have a shimmer EV-240 that can go internal or external. I was told to put it in the prefilter area. That way it gets the water before the bio filter does. It this the right way. I've seen most people put it at the return end.

What do you think?

thanks

Are you going to have a fuge? If so, you generally want it before the fuge, flow-wise, so you're not skimming out any microorganisms etc that the fuge can put back to the main tank. If you don't have a fuge, it probably doesn't matter as long as there's a place for any microbubbles to rise in the sump rather than going into the DT.

I wasn't planning on a fuge right now. Should I? What do you mean by "place for any microbubbles to rise in the sump". Would these be the bubbles from the skimmer?

thanks

Yes, from the skimmer. Some skimmers are worse than others about getting microbubbles into the tank. I don't know much about the AquaC skimmers, but I know my Coralife puts a fair amount into the tank, so I have the skimmer as far away from the return pump as possible.

As far as a fuge goes, that's personal preference. I have one iun the sump for my 55, and if I was building a sump anyway I would probably add one. I like having the macroalgae there there, and a nice DSB.

So I can build the fuge right in the sump? Were would be the ideal location? How big should it be? What goes in the fuge?

thanks
