i need a school of fish that can acompany my Rams in my 10 gallon. ive tried cardinals but they always swimming all over the place on their own.

i would really like to try some Espe's rasbora/heteromorpha espei

they're like harlequins but much smaller. i forgot their school behaviour but i know harlequins school well even in a secure environment.

any other suggestions?
its a lightly planted tank, so tons of swimming space.

the problem with getting fish to school is many of them only do it when threatened. I have 13 White Cloud Mountain Minnows in a 30 gallon and they are always swimming together, however they are not schooling in the truest sense. There are fish that are 2-3" larger than them, but I still haven't had any luck. I would try the Espe's rasboras, but again it's no guarantee that they will school.

Well a ten gallon doesn't have tons of swimming space, but I would also suggest that white clouds area good choice. They stick together, are fairly peaceful, very hardy and fun to watch. I have a small group of 5 in a ten gallon and they do well. They actually don't require a huge space for swimming considering their size.

The biggest determination for if fish will school well, IMM, is how close they are to the wild. Fish that are farm bred, like neons, don't have schooling tendencies because that's not what decides if they get to breed, as it is for wild fish. This is clearly seen in cories--the 'newer' varieties and those still wild caught school tightly, while bronze and albino cories school loosely if at all.

I would pick up 5-6 pygmy cories. They are a midwater fish, instead of a bottom dweller, and tend to school very well, even without a threatening fish in with them.
