During feeding time I got out bloodworms for my chocolate gourami; after feeding them, I had a few left over so I gave one to my male betta who resides in a 1 1/2 - 2gallon vase. He ate a bloodworm, then collapsed to the bottom with his fins clamped. While on the bottom he sat there munching away on the worm, then, when he was done, he came back to the top begging. Does anyone know what he did it?

He's been in the vase for 9 months and I do one to two 50% water changes a week. Ammonia is 0 and nitrite is 0, the pH id 7.8, gH is 10 degrees.

Is this anything I should worry about?

Keeping in mind that I don't actually own a single fish yet (soon grasshopper...soon), it sound to me like he was just *really* enjoying his bloodworm. I have a dog who I swear has to remember to breathe when he's having his dinner or he'll collapse from lack of oxygen - maybe that's what your betta is doing :D

Your betta was probably just deciding if he liked the bloodworm. My betta fry do that right now because they're not liking bloodworms compared to their usual live food. If your betta came back begging for more, I'm sure he, like most adult bettas will be hooked for life. Bloodworms are a very healthy food for them, so I encourage you to continue to feed the leftovers to your betta. All my breeders get bloodworms 3 times a week, and 3 times a day if I'm going to be spawning them soon.
