i have this melanchromis but im not sure which kind. i think it may be johanni "chisimulu easterni" its black with a broken blue horizontal stripe and the blue stipes across its face. it also has blue stripes on its tail. sometimes the stripes appear to be white. my female auratus seems to really like him, she does the mating dance for him, but hes scared of her, maybe because hes smaller than her. anyway, i have no pics, sorry. can anyone help me? anyone know where there might be some pics?

It could be a color morph of a male auratus, though the female displaying doesn't really mean too much, other than that he looks like a male aurautus enough for her. Try www.africancichlids.net/ or www.cichlid-forum.com Perhaps you can find something there.

im almost 100% sure that what you have is a Melanochromis vermivorus, a beautiful and rare cichlid over here in australia.
congrats to u

:D hey- i think youre right! this one looks moer like him than any others ive seen. he really looks alot like the vermivorus. bty- i figured out that my female auratus is actually a male:p he just recently reached maturity, and changed color. i hope it doesnt cause probs between the two. if so i'll get rid of the auratus. thanks for the id!;)
