Hey guys...

Looking for some opinions on the best set-up for a 100 gallon tank. I was thinking about the FilstarXP3. Any other ideas for filteration that might be better. I've convinced my wife that we need to upgrade from our 29 Gallon to the 100... so I don't want to mess this up. This is a big investment. If I do use it is there any other filteration needed or will this canister come with all that is needed.

Thanks for your opinions and input.

It depends on the fish you will want to keep. That is the main factor of how much filtration you will need.

I would go for a turnover rate of around 9-11 times per hour. I dotn know how wat the gph is on the filstar. I know 80gJoe uses rena cannister filters so he should know.

planted, non-planted? hard water, soft water? give us an idea of what you want for a tank.

The Filstar xP-3 will be an excellent filter. You may even want to add a HangOnBack filter also. If it were me, I wouldn't use just one canister -- but then I'm overfiltering some...

Here's a link: RENA Filstar (http://www.rena.net/cgi-bin/trans.pl/en/products/rena_range/rena_filstar_xp.shtml)

I can't decide exactley what I will house in the tank. Most likely will be a Community Tank, but also thinking along the line of a Dicuss type environment. Water here is somewhat hard. Since there is a mention of the hang on maybe Marineland Magnum with an Emporer??... or do some think the canistor alone will do the job?

TIA

I think the XP3 would be an excellent choice. I have an XP2 & an XP3 on my 100 gal. tank, because I have 2 oscars, 2 jack dempseys & 1 large pleco in that tank! You will love the filter.
