My pleco loves lettuce and zucchini and cucumber. I put the slices in boiling water for a few minutes to release the air inside of the veggies so they will sink and then put them in a ziplock bag and freeze. Just get out a few pieces every couple of days and drop them in. Your fish will probably enjoy them as well.

I don't know how exactly the mouth of a pleco works, but he just sucks on the slices of veggies just like he sucks on the glass or anything else.

You can distract your fish away from wear the pleco is or you could feed them some pellets first and keep them busy until finally your pleco gets one. How they eat is they suck the pellets and then they have little teeth up inside the sucker which breaks down the pellets. This takes time for them to do and sometimes the fish will finish their own and go after the pleco's.
