I see nothing irregular about this flowerhorn.
This FH got into a fight with the Trimac if I remember correctly :D

Flowerhorns have some nasty bloodlines...and by the looks of most of them, a heavy dos of Trimac. I would imagine even breeding pairs may need to have a divider to keep fish from killig each other in some cases.

That makes sense, DarthV...Gordeez, are there other fish in the tank, then? I guess that's what I was asking or if you found it necessary to keep the FHs away from electrical equipment...

Actually, he has it with a pure Trimac. The FH and Trimac found last time. I do believe there were some photos posted here...showing both fishes were pretty scared up.

:D There was the same discussion in MoJo's Forum. Everyone said it is a Trimac.

No doubt,
I blame the fish stores who sale Trimacs as Flowerhorns!! THey are misleading some fish hobbyists and over charging I would assume!!

It isn't only that. There are a lot of FH that looks like Trimac. Sometimes it is so confusing. If not for the color, body shape, and snout...you wouldn't be able to tell. Heck! I didn't know the differences until I learned all those at MoJo's Forum. This is just so sad. *sigh*

I think thats part of the reason why alot of hobbyists hate hybrids. It confuses alot of people and it takes away from the original breeds of fish.
I personally am one of the rare hobbyists who likes Flowerhorns, but I dont like it how some of these fish store workers are confusing some hobbyists, its sickening.
I actually brought a Sysnpillum out of a tank that clearly had Blackbelt written on the tank. The fish store owner told me it was a Black Belt, I said its a Sysnspillum and I told him there is a distinct difference between a Synspillum and Black Belt. But Im realyzing that some of these fish store owners are just ignorant as some beginner hobbyists.
I totally agreed with you, Mass. Sometimes I'm the one educating the fish store clerks...not the other way around...when it comes to cichlid. Now I just stop buying any cichlid from the store. I only get cichlids from Jeff now. Beside, there are no LFS here who have the cichlids that Jeff has.

MASS, sorry about the other thread...I'll just keep my mouth shut, b/c it looks like you know what you're talking about...
I never knew that misrepresenting Trimacs was big business...me and my anti-hybrid prejudices!
lols, I've experienced this. LPS only care about selling, they could care less what it is. at a particular LPS, I inquired about a trimac/FH looking fish. I asked if it was a FH, they answered it was a trimac. then I left... later on my friend also inquired about the exact same fish, which they then replied it as a FH. lols. they'll say anything to sell.

hi guys and gals,
this fish is nice but it looks like a flowerhorn and at the same time a trimac. yes hybrid = confusion.
being a person who's from a country where flowerhorn originates from, imagine how many flowerhorns i've witnessed so far? if this fella was on sale i don't think he'd fetch as high a price as what i've seen around here. i've seen some that fetch 38,888 MYR (that's about 10k USD).
yes.... shops here usually have quite a number for 5" - 12" units and countless of many other babies.
in short : it's mass production.
try my friend's website, he's got pictures of actual high-quality flowerhorns.

That beautiful fish looks exactly like the Trimac on page 159 of "American Cichlids II: Large Cichlids" by Dr. Wolfgang Staeck and Horst Linke...same shape, same color, same markings...
