My poor little Dwarfs and South Americans are coming down with Ich. I have both Coppersafe and Maracyn. Which would be best for the the little guys?

as long as either of them doesn't use a copper treatment method you can use either one.

Thanks cdawson, after checking the meads I found that I didn't have enough Maracyn for a full treatment so am using the Coppersafe

if i remember correctly coppersafe is a copper based med...dont us it...I use greenx at half doses and if seems to do the job any meds that say invert.. safe will be safe to use on puffers..Just remember puffers are a scaleless fish treat them right ...:D

Copper is BAD for puffers! Did you just introduce a new fish without quarantining it? I've been keeping fish for over 25 years & I never use meds for ich. 80% water changes every other day (with gravel vacuming), raising the temp to 85-87 degrees & 1 tbsp salt/5gal should get rid of it.

I use salt and heat for Ich also.

Thanks to the good advice recieved on this forum (as well as one other) I didn't use the Coopersafe but bought Maracide and used that. Happy to report that the Ick seems to have cleared up and the kids are looking much happier. (Didn't go with the salt recomendation because not sure how the Ottos would react.)
No new fish added, I suspect the cause was not rinsing live blackworms well enough, that's the only difference in the tank before the outbreak.

Oooooooooo, you must rinse those worms! They come from nasty water! I buy enough for a week & rinse every time, before I feed them out. I keep them in a Coolwhip container with holes on top in 1/4" of water. They last all week.

BTW, as little salt as recomended (1tbsp/5gal), wouldn't have bothered the ottos.

:o I did rinse, but not well enough I suspect. I know the Ottos can be sensetive so I didn't want to chance it, but I will remember if it happens again and go with the salt/heat treatment. My poor little itchy pack wasn't too happy about getting medicated, but thankfully they all made it thriugh and are looking a lot better now:D Thanks again.
