Will a 3 in. spotted hawk attack or eat small shrimp, like -peppermint, cleaner or other detrivorious reef shrimp?

It's pretty calm with a royal gramma and a maroon in a 20g reef , but no shrimp. i am going to move them all to a 120 g DSB and LR setup and want to have some shrimp.

Thanks,

Clay

Since live feeder shrimp are suggested food for these fish, I think that it would be deleterious to a shrimp population to spend an extended period of time with a spotted hawk.

Thanks,

Anyone want a spotted hawk?

I guess I'll trade it at the LFS for something.

I am doing a new 120g , 384W PC, 5 in. dsb and 250lb rock.
Brand new and starting cycle.

I want some soft coral and and a few fish.

I will move the gramma and maroon to the 120 and do something else the 20G.

The royal gramma won't bother inverts will it?

I'm thinking of a couple of jawfish.

More fish recommendations solicited.

Thanks,

Clay

I think that they eat shrimp, too...all my sources say that they eat "crustacean flesh" among other things.

I have royal grammas in multiple tanks. Never seen a problem with them eating cleaning or Coral Banded Shrimp. They do take small pieces of shrimp meat. Most people consider them reef safe to my knowledge.

You have a lot of choices for the reef tank that size. I recomend you get acopy of Scott Michael's book " A PocketExpert Guide Marine Fishes". It is a good information & picture book of fish for the Aquarium.

OK, I just ordered the book.

But I still would like some recommendations for small reef fish that you guys and gals have successfully kept together.

Jawfish are small enough where I believe that the problem would only arise if the shrimp were quite small. They have large mouths but I think that the shrimp would still have to be small. On another note, I've kept royal grammas and skunk cleaners for awhile with no problems.

I've never seen a Jawfish eat a shrimp. They do need atleast 4 inches of sand and some rubble to built their caves in.

In a 120 I like a pair of clowns, a splendid dottyback, an Orchard Dottyback or two, A yellow tang, a royal gramma, And after about 6 months one of the small angels ( Flame, Coral Beauty,Cherub, or Potters). Now Small angels may or may not nip at some corals; there is no telling, but they are so pretty I try them anyway. So far I've not had a problem with any of them.
