Here's Custom SeaLife's Link: PowerCompact/Moon-Lite

It didn't take them long to "improve" the good old aquarium light fixtures!! Wow.

(oops, I meant to "edit" and not "quote" that.... )

I'd really like a moon-light for my tanks. They tend to go out at night when I'm still up & around the house. Hmmm, how do I wire in a blue LED? Maybe just something powered by a battery?

This site has lots of very good info for wiring LEDs. They say it's for a computer, but LEDs are LEDs.

You could use a battery, but the downside is that you couldn't control it with a timer. To power it from an outlet, you'll need a 12V DC converter, you know the black square bricks that a lot of smaller electronics need to run from the wall outlets? You can get LEDs and the converter and stuff from Radioshack, or order them from many places online. After shipping I'm not sure if it would be worth it though. The only tricky part is figuring out what size of resistor you need.

edit: oh yeah, and be prepared that blue LEDs aren't very cheap, usually $2.50-$5.00 each. Red ones are much cheaper, although not as bright. If you can dig a tank tinted red, try them out.

WHY?
They use a separate transformer. Use them the way they are designed to be used... There's that "fire - hazard" thing to think about..

The LED's I mentioned in this thread are different than an ordinary LED. They are 'high-intensity' LED's...

What, the moon lites? "High intensity" Blue LEDs are quite easy to find. Anything on that spectrum of color is going to be very bright. Like I mentioned in I think Andy16's thread, I have a fairly normal output blue LED in my computer and it just about lights up my room. I actually had to cover it up so I could sleep.

If I ever get around to it, I'll get what I need to make DIY moon lites and post instructions and results.
