I use a python look-a-like and am wondering how I go about cleaning the junk w/o picking up the sand??? I always seem to pick up sand when cleaning the bottom. Besides, my parents DO NOT want any sand going down their pipes. Thanks!

I had that one a a few months ago, it's the Lees aquivalent. I got the actual python because the lees hose was getting very stiff and it was a pain to put away. Anyway, back on topic, just hold the hose however high about the sand to suck up the gunk and not the sand.

If you want to clean the sand it self, you can also fit a smaller hose or any method of flow restriction. Adjust the flow until you no longersuck the sand up.

Also, you can (very) gently stir the floor of the tank with your python and suck up the water just above the substrate.
