How often should I change my compact fluorescent light? Do people really change it once every 6 months?
Sorry, I don't know how to use the search feature on here. I tried searching but pg. 1 out of 40 shows up! :help:

Many here change the light bulbs yearly and others just wait till it burns out. Either way its personal preference. If over time you notice that its dimmer than ever then I guess thats a hint for you to change them.

I was reading somewhere that light loses its intensity or "useable wavelength" over time. Sorry for the bad vocab, I'm trying to find the right word.

I use an old Luminometer to check. I usually change all my PC every 8-10 months. I know--it is expensive. I have over 400watts over my FW 100gal. Over 600 over my SW. I am always broke. :(

Folks:

IMHO the annual change concept entered the fish keeping literature when the phosphor manufacture and application was not as sophisticated as today as well as when electronic ignition had not been conceived.

I do not change a bulb until it begins flicker or goes out.

If your going high tech carpet plants every 6 months.other than that let them burn out or change if the plants are not doing so well.

If they are norma; fluors, every 6-12 months. the bulbs will degarade in ways that your eyes wont notices.

Triphosphor fluors are usually good until they burn out and the same for the T-5 power compacts.
