I bought a couple of plants at the LFS this afternoon, the first of many of my errands. When I got home, I kind of forgot about the plants on the kitchen counter. I watched TV, went out to dinner, did some other stuff, and so 6 hours later I turned to the bag on the counter. Now, there was no water in the bag, just a few beads of condensation here and there. So I'm rinsing off the plants and I see the belly side of what I think is a pleco, and I'm horrified because I'm sure it's dead. Then I see a slight twitch of the pectoral fin and I'm off running for the bucket. Thirty seconds later he's in the water, swimming, and emitting a very angry croaking sound. So now I am the proud owner of a spotted raphael cat who spent the entire afternoon and evening sitting on my kitchen counter in a plastic bag containing no water. Pretty good, huh?

If that one survives, then you've got yourself a great deal! :)

Those must have been some nice bushy plants, or a very small fish for him to go unnoticed. (I was sure you were going to say it was an otto.) How big was he? Great story! I hope he makes it long term.

Just make sure ya don't have any tiny fish (ie Neons) especially as the fish grows older or else you will only have your miracle fish :) ! Anyway, amazing story and congrats. Enjoy him, they are cool fun little fish.

I think she meant that he was hiding in the plant so the store unawaringly put him in the bag with his safe haven. Anyway hope this clarifys.

what an excellent story!! on a side note, the clicking buzz they make is pretty weird, don't ya think? I remember when I was for the first time moving my striped raphael to the big tank and he started with that buzzing, if you saw me, you woulda thought I was electrocuted! I never knew a fish could make that noise!! :D
(no fish was harmed during this freak-out ;) )

reminds me of when my pacu jumped out and my sister ran across the street to my friends house to tell me he jumoed out bkuz she couldnt pick him up casue she was too scared, he flopped himself underthe back side my desk and into a large area of collecting lint, i put him back into the tank and he swam in circles for like 5 minute to get oxygen back into his gills and then seemed fine.

That is an amazing story. Had the same thing happen with dwarf frog... Except I did'nt leave him for as long. I called him Bubbles cuz that was the first thing he did when he got in the tank.
