What does your Betta flare at?

Patriot flares at food...

He also has been sitting at the bottom of the tank flaring at and staring at a red-colored extension cord...I covered it with paper, and he stopped that and became more active again, but it got me to thinking and wondering what the weirdest things are that Bettas flare at...

Mo' and Patriot have flared at fingers and mirror images of themselves...what have yours flared at?

My betta "blue star" flares in the corners of the tank. It's an acrylic tank, and there are curved corners and maybe he gets a glimpse of himself somewhere in that curve and flares.

He also flares at the "jungle like" background of the tank. Maybe there he sees a leaf or something.

Sometimes I just put a small mirror next to the tank to keep him "company", but take it away cause I don't want to tire him out too much.

He does not flare at me, but looks for me if I'm in the room. I did not know that bettas were so intelligent. I'll never be without one. :)

They get a bum rap as unintelligent b/c of the presence of cichlids and mormyrids (elephant noses and the like) in the hobby, but I've noticed that they're pretty darn smart, too! :)

even the neons and stuff notice you, if you watch they will get into position to recieve food. They wont come and beg like cichlids do but they do know you are there. my angels come up to the top of the tank while the neons rush over to where my filter outtake is and wait for all the food that gets pushed down! :)
