silicate will not cause a diatom algae problem,I now lots of people say it does, but this is not the case.
How large of a tank do ya have ?
How long has your tank been set up ?
Have you made a change in your lighting ?
What are you params ?

Give your tank a few weeks and diatoms should eventually leave. I use silica sand and I don't have a problem. Diatoms are just a normal part of the cycling process.

Start using RO/DI water if you aren't already. Diatoms are a normal part of cycling and will disappear on their own if you are using RO/DI water for changes and top offs. Also, I have had success with phos-zorb for removing phosphates from my tank, which also fuel diatom and other algae growth.
