I had two five inch red bellies in a 150 gallon tank, but took them out when I put 3 two inch gold piranhas in it. there were two 3 inch bala sharks in the tank, and the red bellies never touched them. but the golds have about nipped the fins off of them. My question is if I can put the two types of piranhas in together without them killing eachother. any help would be great.

When you say gold piranha i'm assuming you mean gold spilo. You can achieve a spilo "shoal" but there will constantly be nipped fins and there is a good chance you will have casualties.

You can't have red bellies & spilos together.

interesting and good question. I do not know the answer although I did have red belly Piranhas for quite a few years. I'm surprised your Piranhas lived with balas. How long?

the balas and red bellies were together for 3months without ever bothering eachother.

150 gallons is a decent size. The redbellies might have had enough territory. I'm assuming you kept them well fed during the time?

Fishes that school that are in numbers too small for a school will go after other fishes in case of pirahnas,i think,if i am right, then no.
