View Full Version : Using Python on a non-standard tap

I've looked at python and looks like it needs one of those regular tap that has standard sized screw to plug into. Since my house doesn't have any tab of the same type that allows mix of hot & cold water, I guess I cannot use it as is...
My washroom is right next to the tank but it features a tap that I cannot imagine how I can interface to python. This is a very common type that I see in most homes... Is there a such a thing as "universal adapter" that can interface to python?
I'm sure I'm not the first person facing this problem...
Appreciate any feedback...

if you would go to their website they have a couple differnt adapters that you can put on depending on your faucet, you can probably even get the parts at your home improvement store.

If I recall correctly, the "universal adapter" that is sold with the Python is just a rubber sleeve that fits over the faucet head and is then tightened into place (to prevent, one hopes, leaks). I didn't think it looked like it would fit my basement faucet too well, so I tried something else.
I took the aerator out of my faucet and took it, and the Python head, to a local hardware store. It took a bit of work, but a very helpful employee there was able to help me piece together a couple of adapters that allowed threaded connection between faucet and Python. Total cost was a couple of bucks.
Unless your faucet doesn't have female threads in the end, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding adapters.
Good luck,

I went and got my adapter form Home Depot. I believe 99% of sinks have the female part at the end of the faucet, you'll just need to unscrew the screen part that is currently in place.

That happened to me when I got my knock-off python months ago. My kitchen faucet was too small for the piece, so, I had to go to the hardware store and the guy gave me like 6 different pieces for it to connect. When I finally got a real python from Big Al's, I ordered the universal adapter with it. I took the little black piece out of the adapter and it went right over my faucet. I just use a screw driver(flat head) and turn it until the adapter is firmly on the faucet. It's great. I get more suction now too. I strongly recommend it. Couldn't have been easier. I believe it was about $4-5.99 at Big Al's online.
I've just looked at the picture of the "universal adaptor" manufactured by whoever is manufacturing python, and it sure doesn't look like it will do the job...
Surely, my kitchen one won't work, and here's the picture of my washroom tap:

I dunno, I don't think regular adapters will do the trick... :(

It most definitely will work on the washroom one. Ok, I will take some pictures of mine and my sink with now and I will show you exactly how everything goes. I guarantee it will be fine for you though.

That would be great! :D
Thanks for the confirmation - I am interested in how it looks!

Hmm... It appears that it may actually work if I get the universal adapter. I hope that my washroom tap's little cylinder that extends down is long enough for the adapter to hold onto...

There must be an airaiter(sp) on that tap Is it a moen tap or a Price Phister tap ( looks like a Moen) you should be able to unscrew the screen on the tap and thread in the adapter, take a close look at it.

Didn't think about unscrewing that "filter" - I'll try that tonight. I guess they must sell some other adaptor that fits in the same hole that are longer?
Thanks for the suggestion!

The ACE hardware store where I got my adaptors has a wall full of bins with nothing but adaptors that fit the aerator threads for different types of sinks. Unless you have a very unusual faucet, you should be able to find one that fits. It will be much easier to use than hose-clamping your Python to the faucet everytime you want to use it.
