I'm not one to buy fish from wal-mart because their tanks are disgusting but I usually walk over and see what they have. This poor guy was in there for at least 2 weeks and wasn't looking so hot. Hes perked up considerably since I brought him home but still doesn't have a lot of color. Its tough to get him to eat, although after 48 hours he seems to be more eager to come out.
The guy who bagged it had no idea what it even was so he gave it to me for the cheapest price on the tank, $1.97
I'm about 90% sure its Mikrogeophagus altispinosus but can someone confirm? (pardon my daughters carebear sticker she just had to have on the tank in the second pic :))

I think I agree with bolivian ram, but not really sure...it does have a touch different look to it?

I'm hoping he pulls through, he's pretty weak but seems to be improving.

I think that with good water and food on a regular basis not only should he perk up but there may be a change in the coloring as well.

Thanks for the help guys.
My main issue right now is find something he/she likes to eat. Its eager to go for the bloodworms but it eats one and then shows no interest in the rest of them.
Any suggestions on what else I can try?
edit: did some googling, going to pick up some sinking pellets and see how those work.

Give it a little time. Try some live food--Live brine shrimp??

Nice fish. I can guess a female. Bolivian rams can be tricky to determine sexes with.
