)
Just like half an hour ago I was testing n02 no3 ... and suddenly I saw something like a mantis shrimp (about the length of your thumbnail and still white with a lilttle brown down it's back) swimming in the water. I immediately caught it with a net, I din't want to kill it right away so I put it in my Hydrometer (I was excited because it was one more pest not to worry about) thinking I'll show it too my dadto kinda prov eto him that all the LR I bought wasn't lifeless. I noticed it was by the surface constantly so I started proding it with a pencil (bad?). All of a sudden it lept from the Hydrometer (scaring the sh** out of me) and onto the floor. Now I was thinking it must be half struggling for life out of the water (wrong!) I pocked it with a pencil and suddenly JUMPED into the air flying near to a foot in length. It kept hopping around until it came near a tiny crack in the hardwood and my dad squished it in fright of it becoming a pest. I have to admit that it was the most bizzare thing I have ever seen. I don't believe that it was a a mantis shrimp because it crawled a little and jumped (mantis's roll). However weird it was and the risk of it being a pest of somesort, I sord-of wish that I had put it in like a ten gallon of its own so it could grow and be identified. It's my 3rd week of cycling and it hitchhiked on the LR. Someone please help me on this one  because I didn't excpect this thing to LIVE out of the water "like it ain't no thang".

Thanx,

I think that it could be a mantis as there are multiple types of stomatopods...not all kill in the same manner, nor do they move in the same manner...I'd check with the people at this forum (http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=37) to be sure, though.
