My city has recently announced plans to add flouride to the local water supply. Despite much resistance, the city board voted in favor of the addition of flouride.
My question, as I'm sure you've guessed by now, is:
IS FLOURIDATED WATER SAFE FOR AQUARIUMS?
If not, are there things I can do to alter my tap water to make it safe for my freshwater fishes?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've lived in St. Paul, MN for three years now. They add flouride to the water suppy. Most large cities do i imagine. anyway.... I use tap water with just the basic chlorine/chloromine neutrilizer, and have never had a problem in those years.

Flouride does not hurt. The concentrations are too small to cause any concern...

Flouride is mind control. You and your fish will be in total control of the True Rulers of the world.

...and our next spelling lesson is fluorescent... thank goodness it's not fluorine...

We've always had fluoride in our water, never a problem. I'm not the most colourful crayon in the box - I never even gave it a thought. It's good you're at least questioning a new water addition.

What's interesting about the flouridation of tap water issue is that flouride exists naturally in many rivers and lakes. This is how it was discovered that it can help prevent tooth decay. People living near natrually occuring flouride appeared to have better teeth than those who did not. And scientists noticed this fact, and put it to good use.

But there is no evidence that flouride is harmful to fish or even people. Most fish have been swimming in it for millions of years.
