I know there are some fish magazines out there, I seem to remember thinking a couple of them had sort of junk information and mostly pictures and advertisements when I checked them out a few years ago. Although I wouldn't mind that as much if they were great pictures... Does anyone have recommendations for a magazine that is either full of great info and/or great pics?

Aquarium USA only comes out annually and is more for beginners, as it has more basic information about cycling and guppy breeding and stuff ha.

Sorry thats all I know.

Dahlia,

Aquarium Fish Magazine (AFM) is sort of a middle ground magazine. It does have some articles and features designed for the advanced aquarist and a section for children/beginners. I believe there is an online version that you can subscribe to.

Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA) is geared more towards a techie/advanced aquarist. It is also heavily geared towards saltwater aquariums. Lots of good information if you can sift it out. I do not know if there is an online version, but that would be easily investigated.

I was also thinking of subscribing to an aquarium keeping magazine, but after a long search, I have come to realize that anything that you might want to read about, you can find for "free" on line. :D

I'd recommend TFH over AFM, but I am an AFM subscriber b/c they have a deal with the company through whom I order all of my subscriptions.

FAMA editors have been accused of not completely fulfilling their duties and allowing questionable and incorrect material to be published. I don't know if that's been fixed in the last few months (since the "create a Betta vase" incident).

I bought couple boxes of FAMA from the early nineties and the info was all scientific and exact, they had amazing articles down to the editorials. I haven't read any in the last 12 years because I can't find it anywhere and don't have the money to order it. I guess they've past the jobs onto less resposible hobbyists.

The old ones that I have are wonderful...it's just the quality of some of the current authors, as you've mentioned.
