No you may not keep cichlids with goldfish.

This has to be a joke post, right? EIth fish will go well with goodfish, until they eat them. I wouldn't put a midas in with a green terror either.
Absolutely. The agression factor for the two large cichlids is way overstated. I am certain that they will survive peacefully with the goldfish. Be sure to get small goldfish so as to not intimidate the other two inhabitants. If possible refrain from feeding the cichlids for a few days before introducing the goldfish. Their first meal with their new tank mates will make them feel happy and welcome.
Troll! Get a life.

Look in General CW and post some shots at the 55g for all four of them...

I would object more for the health of the goldfish than any aggression issues.
Goldfish are not the easy keepers you remember from your childhood. They need more room (20/30 gal each in adulthood), more specialized feeding, and more attention to water quality than you might imagine. The parasite and bacterial problems alone are enormous- there is simply a whole 'nother world of diseases that you'll probably never encounter with tropicals.
Goldfish also produce huge quantities of waste, and you may not be quite ready for the amounts of water changes you'll be needing to do.
While things might look fine initially problems will occur- count on it.
Anyone who keeps fancy goldfish can tell you that they truly are best served in a goldfish only tank- no cories, no plecos, no nothing else.

Have you, by chance, looked up how big giant gouramis get?
There is a reason they're called 'giant'.
lol at slip...
And for all of you who didnt get it, "What's your tank size?" is my way of crude humor... :D :D

You obviously have not researched these fish. I don't want to answer this because you need to research before willy-nilly suggesting combinations that, with a little research, you should be able to eliminate or validate them for yourself!

Well I think you missed the intended sarcasm in everyone's posts :) Goldfish added into a tank with either one of the cichlids would not make it to adult size...with a midas I don't think they'd see the next day!

RESEARCH THIS STUFF FIRST. YOU CANNOT GET A TANK COMPLETE WITH FISH W/O CYCLING THE TANK. HAVING ONE LINED UP PRIOR TO ASKING FOR HELP ON IT SEEMS TO BE YOUR CONSTANT DOWNFALL FROM THE STORIES YOU'VE TOLD SO FAR ON AC. ALSO, ASKING FOR AN ANSWER IN 10 MINUTES IS RIDICULOUS ON ANY FORUM.

take it easy guys, you dont have to make fun her because she doesnt have the slightest clue how to keep fish. I take that oscar suggestion back... itd probably die... good call childawg, have you ever cycled a tank before? 95% of the stuff you post on here you can solve yourself with a little research.
Everyone is getting hot for nothing. This poster is a complete goof. For those who missed my subtle sarcasm...No goldfish with cichlids. BAD idea.

lol at Mojo... I think that pretty much explains everything.
GoLdFiSh_GrL: lemme ask this, have you even ever kept any aquarium fish, or much less had an aquarium?
Trolling, trolling, over the bounding main...

It can't be your first aquarium if you've been telling the truth.
You've had multiple goldies.
You have 4 Os in a 200 gallon tank.
If this is your first aquarium, you have been lying to us and it is not appreciated.
I haven't made fun of you...
You have to take things slow when you're new at this, otherwise you'll have failures over and over.
1st: It's not good to rush things... It is exciting setting a new tank up, you just have to keep in mind the things that keep your fish alive and healthy. I reccomend reading up on cycleing, and researching the fish you want, before you buy them. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

even if she is lieing, Goldys are a lot different than Tropicals

But she has 4 Oscars in a 200 gallon...this wouldn't even be her first attempt at tropicals.

That was the point -- she's either lying about them in other threads or about this being her first tropical tank.
well at least we know she lieing in general! :D ;)

It seems like you get somehitng new everyday.... Well hey, at least we can all understand what your typing now. And how did you ever come up with a midas, green terror, and two goldfish in a 55 gallon tank? :p
GoLdFiSh_GrL
09-18-2003, 9:02 PM
I came up w/ them because I had gotten a library book on Aquarium Fish, and I looked through the whole book to find some fish I liked... I discarded many, and I kept the peaceful, omnivorous types. I didn't want goldfish until my mom is like "You started with goldfish and now you want cichlids?!"

a midas is peaceful? You should just get some convicts or something like that. But not a midas. If you really want one, you keep it alone. you could get away with a 55 but 75 is minimum.

:D Even you have all those fishes in that tank, will eventually left with one. Guessssss....which fish? That's right....IT IS MIDAS. Here is candy for you as reward.
Joking aside, please research on the fish before you even decided on getting them. If you don't know about their temperament, ask before even thinking to put them together. 55g tank is too small for Midas IMO.

OK, this has gotten way off topic. Just to summarize: NO, you shouldn't keep cichlids with goldfish. Temperature and temperament differences, plus all of your proposed tanks are too small.
As for the rest, the question of whether or not she also has a 200g tank with 4 oscars is hereby declared moot.
As a great man used to put it "Say goodnight, Gracie."
And thus this thread is...wait for it...CLOSED.
