Dwarf Gouramis

I just got a dwarf gourami today, and was reading online that they are best kept in pairs. I have a 10 gallon tank, will two dwarf gouramis get along in a tank that small? They seem to do fine together in the 20 gal tank at the store, and they had a lot of them in there.

Yea, but no more than two.. And if at all possible, get two females.

I wouldn't put two males in a 10 gallon tank. I have two in a 12 gallon Eclipse and they fight constantly. Now one is in hiding all the time.

I'm going to move the shy one to my 30 gallon. Hopefully, he'll get along okay with my rams.

I don't really think keeping 2 gouramis is a good idea. I have 5 blue gouramis in a 55 gal with some platies and a red tailed shark. I have found that gouramis like many other species do better in a group. When you have only 2 the more dominant one directs all of its aggression toward the one other fish. With a group of fish this aggression is diluted and spread out over the group so no one fish is constantly harassed. You hit on it in your original post. At the store they had a lot of them in the tank and they did fine.

How about 3? I have a nice power filter on the tank and I don't think it would over load it. Is that too many for them not to be able to have their own territory?

I'm pretty new to having dwarf gouramis. I used to have just a male betta, some guppies, and a cory. The betta killed all my guppies and then died of cancer... at least that’s what the guy at the fish store told me it could have been. Anyway, I've given up on bettas all together, I've had 2... the first one died of old age, and then that other one died after 7 months or so. They are just a pain.

Anyway, right now I have that one dwarf gourami, a swordtail, and two cory cats.

If I can't get the other gourami, what do you recommend? Some platys maybe?

LOL...I was just about to post the same question, "how about 3 in a ten gallon..."?!?! How would a single gouramis do in a 10 gallon(fish other compatible fish)? I think is another good question...
