Could anyone help, I have a 4ft bow front tank (58 gals I think),filtration is a eheim 2217 ,fluval 404 and a rena xp3 ,about 30% water change per week. Fish in tank 1 pleco ,6 tiger barbs ,2 salvini’s ,1 convict and 1 oscar .I have had to take the smaller salvini out and isolate him/ her , he/she was getting really badly picked on by everything apart from the barbs. The remaining salvini is the largest in the tank by about 1.5 inches ,he /she is starting to have major fights with the oscar. What I really don’t get is the friendship between the salvini and the convict .They swim around together, stay in the same caves gang up on the other fish together. Also on 3 occassions I have noticed some eggs in the caves where they hang out, but they seem to disappear after 3-4 days.I know in the end the oscar will out grow everything ,I will take the barbs out before they can fit into it’s mouth. So what is going on with the salvini and the convict? Will the oscar, salvini and convict be able to stay in this size tank? Am I over doing the filtration,my son has a 3ft tank in his room with the juwel filter in it ,would it be better to put 1 of my filters on that? Thanks in advance.

You're going to have to choose between the con + sal and the oscar. You probably have too much filtration, but as long as the fish don't seem streesed from the higher current, then it should be fine. I find it hard to believe a salvini would be bullied by tiger barbs!

doesnt matter how big the oscar grows that salvini will always kick its ***. The convict too if it is breeder mode. but the salvini especially they are some of the most vicious cichlids you can get.

you cant really over do filtering, I would leave it as it is.

It looks like the sal and the con have paired up, I dont think they will actually produce viable eggs but someone might be able to correct me with this. Cons will breed with anything they can entice into their cave.
