Other than spray water all over as I try to decide if I need it or not?:o
There is no explanation for this thing in the manual I received with my XP3, just, here it is! Is it necessary? So far it isn't!:rolleyes:

If you mean the 'cone' thing? --It's for priming. At first I didn't know what it was for either. My Filstar came with a laminated chart that shows set-up directions. It's on step #4.
Otherwise, there's the VENTURI which is used to aeriate (sp?) the outlet water. It's shown on page 1 and page 2 of the instructions. I don't use it since I have live plants..
that little air tube outlet is where I put in my CO2. it dissolves really well sitting in the top of the spray bar.
