i have two different fish in two different tanks that are getting pretty plump here of late.

first is a CAE in my community tank. there are 5 of these in this tank.
second is a yo-yo loach in my daughters tank. there are 2 of these in this tank.

could they be spawning? do these fish spawn in captivity? the loach is really noticibly fatter this week. it is in a tank with molly fry as well. could it be eating the molly fry? the fry are getting pretty big and the loach is only about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4inch long, but they are the only fish in the tank that chase the fry occasionally. thanks for the info.

Don't know. Now how's that for an answer? But if it is your CAE spawning, take notes!! There is info everywhere about breeding every kind of fish imaginable but I have not found a site on CAE's. Of course, with people's attitute many will ask why you would want to. Most sites I have found say CAE's have not bred in captivity. There was ONE that said breeding in the aquarium has "recently been achieved" but did not give any more info than that. I can't even now find the page that gave that much info.

Loaches are rarely bred in a home aquarium,CAEs are loaches,i doubt it,most likely it ate too much or ate a dead fish or worse, having dropsy but then,i could be wrong.

Sounds like someone has been eaten real good lately.

check for scales standing out and other signs of bacterial infections like popeye or eyes standing out. if you can rule out that kind of thing it might be simple over-eating.... i have heard at least clown loaches rarely spawn in captivity..

good luck
