Please help ID this stuff?

Can anyone ID this stuff that keeps appearing on my sand? It looks like a white cloud lying on the sand, I siphon it up and it appears somewhere else.. If you can ID it, how should I get rid of it? I think its some sort of fungus but not sure. Its in a new tank setup about three weeks old and first noticed it incapsulating a piece of food that was lying on the bottom. Tank parameters are PH-7.6 temp-79 gh-4 kh-4, Nitrites are pretty high too.

IDK what it is but it looks very interesting. You are still cycling right?

Probably, just as you already noticed, bacteria on uneaten food. Feed less and vac more.

I had something like that a few years back. It turned out that my roommate was feeding my fish. In addition to the double feedings, he was overfeeding. There was almost like a carpet of white, fluffy stuff that appeared in some spots. I just vacuumed it up and put a stop to the extra feedings. Problem solved.
