I am interested in setting up a species tank and was wondering when you mail order fish if you are able to specify the sex of the fish you are buying? I`d like to be able to guarantee I get the m/f ratio I want.

Are you looking for African or CA/SA cichlids? If it's CA/SA there is no better place than Jeff Rapps (www.tangledupincichlids.com) at Tangled Up in Cichlids. If you're after Africans than I can't help you.
I think www.frybabies.com may be able to help you on African Cichlid.
If you are looking for Dwarf Cichlid, I know a few website you can go to as well.

Cichlid guy, to answer your question, you should be able to specify a trio (1 male 2 females) or whatever you want in terms of male/female ratio when you order from a breeder.
If they don't offer that, I'd shop around!
Good Luck

I've purchased from this before, you can buy trios (1male/2females) or whole breeding colonies. The Cichlids I bought turned out to be very hearty.

of the 14 or 15 species of cichlids that i am currently keeping, 90% of them have come through the mail from Jeff Rapps at www.Tangledupincichlids.com The ones that didnt come through the mail were hand picked by me at his facility or from another hobbyiest who originally got it from Jeff as well.
