Hi again,
I stuck this question on the bottom of an earlier post, but here it is on it's own.
Any ideas how to close a tank to a small (2yr old) child who likes to play in water?
(We are setting up a 29gal at a friends house, and this could be a concern)
(Commercial or DIY solutions welcome. I guess we could custom build a hood with a combo lock.. *L*)
Thanks,
Keegan

you could mount a lock on the hood. maybe a padlock type thing.

Glass tops and bricks!
Just a suggestion, look at the various child-proofing products available. Perhaps some of the cabinet locks could be used somehow. I'm thinking of the one, in particular, that uses a lock with a magnetic key, although I'm not sure if there is a way to mount it on the hood.
I would also suggest providing another outlet for the child(ren) to play with water. My 1 and 3 year-olds have a sand and water table outside to play with. I also don't get too bothered if they play in the water at the kitchen or bathroom sink. They know that the fish tanks are off-limits. My 3 year-old sometimes helps me feed the fish.... closely monitored, and he also likes to help when I do water changes. This seems to satisfy him.

I think you will have to get rid of the child ;)

Actually I used some velcro on the hood of my 20gal to keep the cats from going fishing.

dont forget to move the bricks before lifting the cover or you will have a lot of water when the brick falls through the tank

Also consider the danger of the child trying to climb up and pulling the whole thing over on himself.
Or getting into the electrical connections or chemicals underneath.
