I have read books which quote the adult size of fish but few if any state when fish reach that size. If (and I may be wrong) most fish sold are less than 2 years old at what age should mature size be reached. If this is a 'how long is piece of string' question I'm sorry just quote a few typical species.

Slow growing creatures like some plecos will take a few years to grow to near adult size. Others like platys or Anglefish will hit full size in a few to several months.
good luck
:)

fish dont really stop growing like people do, they just slow down alot!

some of the large cichlids can go from 1 inch to 10 in a year and then will slow down to almost imperceptable growth. it really depends on the fish. tell us which fish you are looking at and we can probably give you a rough time on its growth.

Often it depends on how the fish were handled during their early months- a fish that is kept in substandard conditions for its first 3 months may never reach its full potential size despite the improved conditions you provide after you get it home.

There is often no way of knowing when you look at a fish whether it is a healthy 4 month old juvenile or a stunted one year old. Knowing the source of the fish is a big help in such cases.

That's why you see such emphasis on large grow out tanks and frequent high quality feedings for your fry.
