2 things to help you get better results :

1) post in the aquatic plants forum. People there are expecting plant questions and are (for the most part) more knowledgeable.

2) be more specific with your tank definitions, very much of growing plants has to do with light and water requirements. So, try posting your specs to better help us help you:)

Amazon swords! Those get my vote, easy to keep as long as they get some sort of light. I bought one for 5.99$ at Big Al's last week and it is just beautiful.

Jave fern is a popular beginner plant. You can get away without co2 and a lot of light.
