I have a rainbow shark in my 55gal - hes about 5" in length. I've had him about 6 mos now, and up until today he has been great - active, and seemingly healthy. I noticed today though that he is just swimming in the corner of the tank and when i looked at him he has an eye problem. It happened to a red tailed shark I had in the same tank about a month ago (that one eventually died). His eyes had a clearish film over the top of them. It is a thick, jelly looking substance. Does anyone know what it is, what I can do to cure it, if my other fish are in danger (contagious), and how they get this disease. Like I said I had one other fish get it, but my tank seems fine. All the other fish are healthy and happy, I do my water changes, etc. Thanks for the help...:(

I just did a good water change last week. I'm not sure what the exact levels are right now, but I haven't had any problems with bad levels with the tank yet.

This is usually a sign of poor water quality.I would do water changes and see if it clears up.You might want give some antibiotics to the tank to help the fish recover.Could be and infection ,I have a couple of cichlids that have cataracts but they are about 7 years old.Your fish seem to be to young for this.Good luck with it!

not to be an @ss, but we need more information.

the problem you are describing could be caused by any number of problems, simple injury, parasitic, bacterial, fungal or even things like an ammonia burn as far as i know.........

and "just did a water change last week" makes me think it might be time for another.... ;)

do constant water changes then it should be ok. when a fish is sick, you could try to do a daily water change.
