does any one have any suggetions on good fish for a community tank besides neon tetras and dwarf gouramis. I just got a 30 gal tank.

I would dedicate the tank to barbs. Some tiger some rosy some neon. I like them because they are so active and school well. Most of the time they will even school between the different types which is cool.

Be prepared to have "better than average" water quality when keeping the Dwarf Gourami.

For some reason, this is a delicate fish...

Here's more from the "Practical Fishkeeping" website:

quote>>So, despite a tremendous amount of literature recommending this as a good fish for any community tank, I personally don’t. The males can be either very timid, choosing to hide among plants or décor - or very boisterous, which sees them tear around the tank after all and sundry. Their main focus will be on the females and they can end up living a rather sad life, being constantly pursued. <<

Anyway, a couple SAE's would be nice to add...

you could do a bunch of tanganikan shell dwellers. but you could only do them, there are lots of varieties though.

there are many many species of tetra that are really good looking.
a personal fave of mine is the cardinel tetras.

You could try some rainbowfish. Some of them are very beautiful, but try not to pick species that get too large, because they can get quite active sometimes.
Barbs would be nice, or some kind of unusual tetra. I really like loaches too, yoyos in particular. They are entertaining fish.
