This morning, My peacock eel was feeling poorly. He had a big chunck missing from his side, and was having problems swimming straight. I moved him From his Sixty gallon tank with large sized fish (Dojo loaches, Giant Danios, Rosy Barbs, Mollies and Clown loaches, all of which are much bigger than what you see in lfs.)

Anyway I moved him to the 29 gallon tank with just Baby mollies and the tiny danios, and a Dojo loach that had tried to kill himself by jumping out of the bigger tanka few weeks back.

Because of the Dojo's suicide attempt, there was already some melafix and stress coat in the tank, which is one of the reasons I put the Eel in there. The other is that the fish are less liekly to bother him. So I put some more melafix in there, and left for a day at work.

I come back home, and find him stuck to the filter, dead. :( My favorite fish. And On my birthday, too. So I scoop him out into a clear cup, so I can mourn over him.

But before I get a chance to, I see these worm-like things crawling over him. They are less than a centimeter long, light brown, have arrow shaped heads, are kinda flat, and crawl along like a slug.

Could someone please tell me what they are? Or give me a good websight that has pictures of such things? Are they bad for my tank? how do I get rid of them if they are? I'm afraid I may have infected both tanks because of my switcheroo.

BTW, I have had some changes to my tank lately. The original one the eel was in got a major overhaul. There was sand in it, we replaced it with gravel, some of it had been used before. It was rinsed, but could there be a chance that the worms were waiting in the gravel? It must be at least six months since we've used the gravel, and it wasn't stored wet at all. We put in new decorations, ones with caves away from light, but without a tunnelwork of holes that the fish hide in so long that we stress ourselves out thinking they've died in there, then stress them out by shaking them out. We also got new fish-2 small clown loaches, 2 silver mollies and 2 pineapple swordtails. I haven't tested the water yet, but I expect there will be fluctuations.

Any help would be wonderful, Thanks!!!!

(Sorry it's long)

Just a guess but im going to say its probably a parasite of some kind esspecily scince the chunk was missing in the fishes side. Are there any other signs of parasite infection in any other of the fish in those tanks? I would watch them closely and if any of the fish show signs of a parasite infection I would treat both tanks.
This is just a guess though.
They could just be those scavenger worms that most people have in there tank but just dont know about cause there nocturnal and live in the gravel mainly. Scince they are scanvengers it would explain why they where on the dead fish.

Could be flatworms. See here
http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish2/aqfm/1998/sep/wb/

They are scavengers, not parasites. They can be a problem in marine tanks when the populations get large enough to be unslightly but they aren't dangerous in and of themselves. (In other words I wouldn't go to extreme lengths to kill them if it might hurt other aspects of the tank)

Flatworms scavenge carrion. They are not 'parasites.'

Thanks, guys!

That link led me to a good picture that matches what I have. So it looks like I don't need to worry. But I don't like them in my tank.

So, how do you think he died? I forgot to mention that there was a dark brown spot on his chest, like a bruise, a little further down from his pectoral fins. It kinda looks like his heart exploded.
