i just got a 55 gal tank (yay!) for my room and what i really want to put in it is atleast one pair of kribs... but my mom's tank (which i can't manage to convince her is overcrowded) has a pair of pearl gouramis that i'd like to move downstairs to give them more room. will they work with kribs? there should be plenty of room for them to avoid each other, and i know gouramis tend towards the top and kribs toward the bottom of the tank. i'd appreciate any opinions

I dont think you should have a problem a have an opaline gourami in with chiclids that are more aggresive than kribs and have no trouble and I think pearl gourami's get to be about 4-5" and kribs are around 6 I think. The only problem I can think you might have is with the two gourami's unless you are planning on hiding places. With the gourami's being in an overcrowded tank the less dominant one can escape the dominent one but in a 55 with 4 inhabitants it will be bullied alot more. I had three opalines in my 90 and the two dominant ones atacked the weakest all the time till it was dead the when there was two the most dominant atacked the weaker one untill he was dead. Ive read this is a pretty typical gourami trait that they dont like there own kind as tankmates.
anyhow good look with the new 55!

ok, thanks a bunch for the info about the gouramis... i'm atleast gonna hold off on moving them because of this, since the tank only has the 2 new kribs in it, and i'm pretty sure both are males so that wouldn't work out too well. this is a second hand tank and the fish came with it so we're still trying to decide where they will end up
thanx :)
