Does anyone out there feed their cichlids brine shrimp? If so, do you raise your own or feed them frozen ones that you purchase from the local fish store?

We feed them the frozen shrimp...
Out of the variety of food for the Discus, Tetra Color Bits has to be their favorite!

I have fed the frozen brineshrimp cubes to my fish by hand!! Just got a decent hold of the cube of shrimp and stuck it in the tank and the lil fellas came up and ate it out of my hand(actually could only hold on to the cube with my thumb and fore finger)! I could only hold on to it for a little bit of a time, but it was awesome that they came up to me. Mostly it was the cichlids and the leporinus who came up.

Did this just last week.:D

Do you not defrost the cubes? I always let them thaw in a little dish of aquarium water. If I get a brainfreeze from a Slurpee, I can only imagine what a frozen shrimp does to a tropical fish.

D'oh!! Never thought of that  Gonna try it by defrosting in tank water out of tank. But how much damage can/does frozen brineshrimp do?
