Choosing fish

grr..... i can't seem to find a good combo of fish for my 10 gallon tank! i need help! someone please tell me what kind of fish to buy for my ten gallon tank!! It has a heater an a filter (regent 5-15) i really need help here!!!

This was split out from another thread, and while the other posts do not appear, the count still does. Who knows!

Anyway--there are many threads here on appropriate fish for a 10 gallon tank, along with good combinations of fish. You need to decide if you want several small fish, a single medium (3 inches or less) fish, or what. The activity level of the fish, color, etc, are all important as well in picking fish that you will enjoy.

I prefer a few fish and lots of plants. I would go with a single pair of dwarf gouramies, probably sunset or honey. 4-5 skunk cories, and maybe one bristlenose ancistrus.

perhaps killifish, if you were looking for something a little different? they're nice in a planted tank. Livebearers can have a lot of personality, but you have to expect babies. and trust me. they WILL reproduce.

A 10g is a perfect tank for a pair of small fish, preferably ones you can sex, so you can get a mating(?) pair. Even if they don't breed, it'll be fun. One perfect tank setup is a male betta and a couple of females. Everyone always sticks the poor male in a plant vase or a jar, and while they can do OK in such a setup, they really do better in a bigger tank. If you look, you'll also find that female bettas are quit attractive in their own way.

I'm not a big fan of the regent filter, it'll get noisy within a short period of time. Check out Big Als (www.bigalsonline.com) and when you get a few extra bucks, get an AquaClear mini, which will do just fine with your 10g tank.

I also like Orion Girl's suggestion of a pair of dwarf gouramis...
