:girl:I have in the past few months gotten really big in to bloodparrots. I think they are soo cute and I have found them in so many cool colors. But anyway I have one full grown, large orange blood parrot who is having a problem staying upright. He has this tendency to swim around with his head pointed at the bottom and his tail towards the top of the tank or sideways. And when he goes to hang out under the rocks or flower pot he will be upside down (although i think he looks cute when he does this I dont think they are supposed to). Well actually he will do this just about anywhere that he is still long enough. For a while he was spending most of his time resting on the bottom of the tank, which I think could have had something to do with the ICK I've been getting rid of.
I think it could be a swim bladder infection. Ive heard that feeding them peas will help correct this. Is this true or does anyone have any suggestions for me??
My blood parrots are housed in a 30 gallon at the moment waiting to move to a 55 gallon. I have one full grown and 8 juveniles. I just lost my 2 smallest to ICK :( I have just finished water treatments in the tank for a nasty bout of ICK that I recieved from 4 blood parrots I bought from Wal-Mart. I have been doing frequent water changes of around 30% each time. Other than that all my levels and pH have been fine.
Since the ICK has cleared up my blood parrot is no longer resting on the bottom of the tank but he still swims funny.

Anything would be helpful and appreciated.
Thank you.

Thank you I thought thats what it was. I have fed him a few peas and he actually seems to doing better. Still swims sideways a little but I'm hoping he will be upright again very soon.

swim bladder problems can stem for several issues.
I would try the peas now and see if constipation was the cause of this.

if not you may need to keep a watchful eye out. as if it is a true infection you may need a different course of action.
unfortunately , with the Blood parrots it could also be a genetic problem.

hang in there.
