I don't think so. I am pretty sure they only stay in the water.

They should stay in the water all the time but keep a tight feeding lid just in case. Good luck with them. And btw, just make sure that the frogs you purchase have webbing on all 4 legs or else you will be getting the African Aquatic Frog which grows to a monster size of 6 inches. Anyway, hope this helps.

just a side note....... leave the water level down an inch or 2. they still need to breathe air and this will also prevent them from escaping. (not that mine ever tried to.) i would also recommend keeping it/them in a shallower tank as i have heard rumors that they can become confused and drown in deeper tanks. i kept my pair in a 10g, and for dwarfs this should be more than adequate.

i hit a website awhile back that had recordings of them singing..... mine never did tho.

I have two in a 2.5 hex with some plastic plants and some rocks to hide in (they really like little nooks to hide in when they're feeling shy). The tank came with a lid that has only a tiny hole for feeding, so I obviously haven't had any jump-outs...

I do clean out/perform maintence on the tank from time to time and need to remove the frogs (I put them in a little tub of water with a lid). In transition to their 'holding tank' they sometimes try to jump away, so be aware of that.

Congrats on getting these great little guys, I've had mine nearly two years now and absolutely love them!

In order for them to sing you need at least one female and one male. The male is the one who sings - to his lady friend obviously ;) I find them very hard to sex, esp when they're small, so it's sort of a crap shoot when buying at the store.

I've kept Dwarf frogs for years, love em... One thing I'd like to clarify... There is a dwarf frog, Hymenochirus boettgeri, which does come from Africa, but it isn't the frog that is known as THE African frog. These guys have webbing between their front toes. Nice, peaceful community tank addition.

or there is an African clawed frog, Xenopus Laevis, which obviously, comes from Africa. They have no webbing between the front toes. Voracious predator, capable of some amazing carnage. Trust me, this I've seen myself.

........... and the albinos are pretty much guaranteed to be clawed frogs, NOT dwarfs........

they do sort of have a cute plasticky looking apeal when they're young tho. :D

the first time i saw those in my friends tank i thought they were ornaments. :o

I have 3 in a 2.5 mini-bow (just got the third one to replace one that died right after we got them originally). Mine have never tried to jump out that I know of, but I read that it is a possibility. The lid on my mini-bow has a big open section in the back for a filter or whatever. I have covered the opening with foil until I find a more permanent solution because I don't want to take any chances.

Keeping the water lower is a very good idea. Even in a 2.5 one of my frogs couldn't get to the top at first. He just kept trying and trying, but each time he'd get 1/2 to 3/4 of the way to the top and despite his best efforts, he'd end up floating back to the bottom. With the water level lower none of them have any problems now.

Also, when you go get it/them, after you've looked to make sure it has webbed feet, etc., make sure they catch ones that look healthy (i.e., good color, all legs working properly, no visible sores, etc.). I know this sounds silly - of course we try to get healthy animals, but I've seen some pretty sad looking froggies at various places.

If you can get em to notice em, they LOVE Tubifex worms. The cube kind. It's hilarious to watch a tiny frog going round and round with a big old cube of em. The problem is getting the frogs to see em and try em. For bottom feeding, sinking shrimp pellets always worked for me.

I feed my frogs Hikari Frozen Bloodworms (1 cube every other day-they were getting too fat :) ) or a cube of frozen brine shrimp. Have you named them yet? I named mine Ichabod and Catrina from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow movie starring Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp. I figured it fits since they are male and female and Catrina is out all the time while Ichabod hides behind things until dinner. Anyway, hope this helps and congratulations on the new additions!

freeze dried or frozen bloodworms for mine. some shrimp pellets.... sometimes i'd toss in an algae or spirulina tab, but i'm not sure if they ate it or just the otos did.

my friend used hikari sinking carnivore pellets with his albinos. that was funny to watch, them sort of scrambling around trying to find it. :D

they *may* also eat ghost shrimp. that tank had a few in it for the baby black ghost knife and eventually they all disappeared........ YMMV
