Need some insight here. I want to have a more even current through the tank but the standard output nozzle position isn't producing what I want. Since it uses that holder device, it holds the output higher up in the tank and creates plenty of top current, but not much on the middle or bottom unless it contacts glass but then it just follows the glass down.

What I want is a even current around the tank, not the stream that I'm getting right now.

Would a spray bar be what I am looking for? My thought is that a spray bar would diffuse the water too much, losing a lot of the flow that I'm looking for.

Hmm, I use both Eheim and Fluvals and I guess the spray bar on the Eheim gives a more even spread (not soo much diffuse), also the added benefit with the spray bar is you can tilt it in a downward position to get a down ward current.

Not sure how you'd fit a spray bar onto a fluval, but i can sympathize as i have the same top end current issue!

if you want current on the bottom you could add a larger hob filter and the current output usually hits the glass and flows downward. OR get a power head to get more current going on the mid/bottom levels.

I do have a HOB (aquaclear 50) at the middle of the tank but the output is going over the top of where I want the current. I'm trying to improve the current across a piece of driftwood that has clado growing over it.

Thought about a small powerhead (Rio 50), but for CO2 purposes. But it might be really helpful in this case since the powerhead will be aimed directly at the problem area and it'll be under the filter output, spreading CO2 throughout the tank.

I've seen the Fluval spray bar kit. Thought about it. Anything special about it? Or is the modular Eheim spray bar kit better? The Eheim is a little more expensive but it has more options, and I don't have to cut the tube if it's too long. Just worried about whether or not the hose will fit.

Its got hoses right? Pick up 1/2" PVC pipes and fittings at lowes or home depot for like super cheap and make one. I picked up all the stuff I needed for like $8, gonna start making mine right now.

BTW, if the tubing is 5/8" (and it probably is) try not to reduce down to 1/2" inch, try instead to enlarge to 3/4" somehow. You can pick up a 5/8"-3/4" fitting at your local auto parts store (radiator section) for a couple of bucks.

The reason I say to avoid reducing down to a 1/2" is because 1/2" tubing is soooo much smaller than 1/2" PVC pipe.

Yeah, the Fluval's hosing is definitely not 1/2", probably 5/8".

Someone selling a "new" Rio 50 on craigslist finally responded and I'll be trying to get that. For $7, I think it's a sweet deal.

I would make DIY spray bar but I don't have much time nowadays. Maybe when I catch a break from schoolwork.
