View Full Version : cory health
ive got 5 albino cories and ive been concerned about them for a couple days. a couple of them seem to be acting a bit odd but i cant figure out why. a couple have shown signs of dorsal fin deterioration.i have a few apistos in the tank but ive never seen them bother any of the other fish, they ignore them alltogether. the cories also seem to flash around a bit and i read that it could do with water quality so i did tests. ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0. water changes 1-2 times weekly. tons of plants which are thriving. all of the other fish seem fine and dandy. i cant figure out what could be stressing them. the dont have to compete for there space. the other bottom fish are kuhlis and they just hide out. so what could be the prob? is flashing a normal behavior that fish will sometimes do? what else could cause fin probs?

Cories tend to dash about in a playful manner, esp if they have lots of friends ;) They also dart to the surface to swallow air - this is normal although it can be because they aren't getting enough oxygen from the water too. Sound to me like they're just being cories.
In regard to the fin problem, it could be that they are getting nipped but you just don't see it. I have a serpae that is a bit of a bully, and although I've never seen him nip the cories it's pretty obvious when they have a bite mark in their dorsal fin! I actually lost a cory this way from the subsequent infection. :(
If they are getting nipped they need somewhere to retreat to - do you have many hiding places for them?
yeah ive got a couple pot caves and driftwood they cant hide out in. i suppose they could be getting nipped, i dunno ill keep an eye on em and mor eof them start looking bad ill start researching diseases or toxin isuuses.
