I've had a whisper filter running on my tank for over a year, but recently the flow has gone down to a trickle (even if you take out the filter bag so there's no resistance). I've tried taking the impeller out and rinsing it and it's housing. This might have produced a marginal improvement (it's hard to tell) but still nowhere near the flow that there used to be. Any suggestions?

i think u might have one that is adjustable...
try turning the tab at the top middle of the filter...

You could also try taking the filter apart and cleaning the tube the impeller slides into with a tooth brush. It might be gunked up. Also try cleaning the metal rod and make sure nothing is wound around it that might prevent the rod from spinning properly.

hmmm...all this only after a year huh? It could be that you have a defective motor...

take the part that powers the filter (goes into the bottom) off and clean it with a q-tip inside. You have to turn it 90 degrees to get it off. I had some buildup in there and it improved the flow.

I had the same problem after a blackout...it would'nt start back up. The motor is removable and I cleaned it out very cood with a tube brush, which alot if junk did come out, which returned the flow to normal.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'd already tried cleaning the impeller itself but I couldn't really reach deep down into the housing to clean it out. Hebdizzle, thanks for letting me know that the motor was removable - that made it much easier to get in there. After removing all the buildup I could find, flow seems to have improved quite a bit. Problem solved it seems.
