just seeing if i can get one for any of my tanks...besides the stingray and discus tank:D
I usually see them in the fish store kept with brackish water species. Scats and Monos, etc. I don't think these eels are true freshwater species.

ithink they are....i see them in petco all the time bu they are alone...
If it is a moray, it is not true FW.

so what should i do????
Either set for brackish water, planing to raise it to salt as the eel matures, or don't buy the eel.

yea, theres no such thing as a fw moray. It could survive in FW when its young, but will need to be moved gradually to full strength SW as it gets older.

Yes, they are BW and do require SW when older. Don't get it unless you're completely willing to move it to SW.

While we are on the topic so do Monos and Scats so that is why they make good tankmates. IMO, SW Morays are much more exotic and attractive so if I were you I would just set up a sw tank and get a sw moray like a Zebra, Snowflake (Echidna nebulosa-true sw one), Chainlink, or some other one :D!

It needs BW right now, if you aren't willing to do that return it.

it'll develop health problems and eventually be unable to fight off infections and disease. It's kind of like what the cold does to us. Seriously put it in BW, regardless of how long it's been "ok".

if its called a snowflake eel, it (as far as i know and have heard) can live in freshwater.
there is also a Snowflake moray that is SW.

snowflake eels are the same as the FW moray and CANNOT live in FW. They can tolerate it for awhile but will eventually succumb to disease or infection caused by a weakened immune system from lack of trace elements from the synthetic sea salt(as with all brackish fish).
BTW an excellent way to decorate your moray eel tank is with some silica sand and lace rock. Lace rock gives you the look of live rock, without the "live" part =)
It gives brackish hobbyists a good way to decorate your tank like a SW tank and not have to worry about killing your live rock with the changing salinity.
