my tank has a green algae bloom thats been going on for about 1 month now. i've tried everything from increasing the water changes, less feeding, the blanket method, and even that algaecide which i hated to do. the green stuff keeps comming back and im about to tear down the tank and start from scratch.

the tank (60 gal: 1oscar, 1 pleco) has been running for about a year now and i never had this problem before. yes its near the window, but if it was the sun why would it trigger at this moment and not b4? i feed regularly (once every other day) and change the water (30%)every week.

the only thing i havent tried yet is the UV sterillizer and diatom filter, only because im low on cash and cant afford to buy anything right now.

can anyone help me out? and if theres no hope how would i go about taking down the entire tank and making sure i kill off the algae?

Try using plenty of carbon in your filter for a few weeks, replacing the carbon every few days, and don't leave your lights on more than 8 hrs a day. What kind of lighting are you running, btw?

carbon would take out an algae bloom?

the lighting isnt anything special, just what the tank came with. its probably just a regular florecent light

What is the nitrate level in the tank?

What is the pH of the tank?

What is the pH and nitrate level in the tap water - aged or aerated, not fresh-drawn?

That does not answer the questions.

Good Luck
