I have a 48" shop light hanging over my 125. I had read in another post that the reflectors aren't all that effective. The only plants that I have growing in there are hornwort and anubias. Do I need to improve upon the reflector? I had read that you could paint it?

You could get a plastic gutter and either find an aluminum one or find a bright white one to reflect the light back at the tank.

I'm really sorry... a little technically challenged here. What do you mean by a plastic gutter? Also, the tank is acrylic with a built in top so I can't attach anything to it... if that makes a difference :)

A rain gutter is the thing on the edge of a roof where the rain drains into and eventually flows out into a drain or just in a yard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_gutter Plastic gutters are about 10 dollars for 20 feet at lowe's, although I haven't seen an aluminum one there. Just cut it to size with a saw, sand the edges, then paint the inside bright white or if it's aluminum, just polish it with a metal polishing liquid.
