In your other version of this thread in the Newbie Forum you mentioned that this tank is cycling. Generally, doing a traditional cycle (i.e. with fish) in a high pH tank such as that for Tanganyikans is a bad idea, because ammonia is more toxic at higher pH's. If your pH is not high, then the ammonia might not be a problem, but the lower pH will definitely make the Juli uncomfortable.
I would start doing daily water changes to minimize the ammonia problem right away, and then go to an LFS to see if you can get a used media cartridge out of one of their filters (offer to buy it if necessary) to put in your own (whatever you are using) to jump start your bacterial population and finish the cycle early.
What kind of filter, what size tank, and what tankmates are we talking about here, anyway?
